How do I teach
First and foremost, I will focus on safety. It is paramount to me that your child is safe and I will teach them the do's and don't of skating safely.
Children have to enjoy themselves and have fun whilst they are on skates. I do not try to create the perfect athlete for the Olympic games, My main objective is that after my lessons, your child tells you that he/she loves skating and wants to do it again. I love to skate and I want to pass on my passion to your children.
As you might have guessed, I am a stong believer that you can learn more efficiently if you enjoy yourself. The format of the class is usually 1h15 of exercise and activities to learn the technique and balance. and the last 40 minutes are for games and fun (always on their skates). Altough it is sometimes hard to find the correct balance between serious learning and fun, I am very good at dealing with children and reading them so that I can get the most of them and 9 times out of 10 they will ask for more.
What do I teach
You child will learn the fundamentals of skating and depending of his or her ability will learn more advance moves.
1) Stopping: I will aim to teach them no less than 3 different way of stopping. The snowplow, the heelbrake and the t-stop.
2) Turning: They will learn the A-Frame turn and depending of their level, the parralel turn and maybe even the cross-over turn
3) Other moves: The lemons, Toe roll, Backward skating, Scooting, Lazy skating. All those technique that will increase their skating ability.
